Thanks for your share! Should we care about money to add the word “cultural” to the deaf studies? MJ, Ben, Arlene, Dirksen, Carol, and,… at the deaf studies dept at gally, What do you think about Deaf Cultural Studies dept. ? (curious)

wow thanks for sharing with us! i wanted to go but things just did not work out - Bummer. anyway you mentioned if Deaf Studies are actually sitss of colonialism or neocolonialism - can you clarify?
Also, i agree, we need more ‘meaty’ course focusing on a more indepth understanding of what really is Deaf culture not just superficial things that you just mentioned.

Hey, I was there as well and enjoyed Paddy Ladd’s speech as well. I also was at your preserving history workshop, which was fascinating as well! I’ll try to make a vlog about the workshops soon!

I wish to go, and I’m waiting (hopefully) for the deafhood workshops in my home state. I just sent an email to Ella and hope to hear from her soon. My friend is trying to contact CAD to have it to be in Colorado. Thanks for your share!

Beautiful summary! Thank you! I was at DST and it was the BEST academic conference I have ever attended! I enjoyed your presentation about the HEART of Deaf Culture.

1. Deaf Swedish - i dont think it will be that expensive to change the name to Deaf cultural studies as most materials r electronic so just a matter of typing and changing and catalogs get printed annually so easy to fix there
2. Noni - the comment by Dr. Ladd about examining our own Deaf Studies programs to see if they r possible sites of colonialism wasnt really elaborated on in the presentation but if i recall right i think Paddy was noting that most Deaf Studies programs cater largely to hearing students and even some have hearing chairs and faculty. He noted that is a bit unusual. In Women’s Studies, Queer Studies, African-American studies the majority of students are people of the same cultural group. I think Paddy was asking us to examine how does teaching Deaf studies to predominantly hearing students affect the program itself. Very different audience which will affect the curriculum and also affect who becomes experts and teachers in the field later etc.
3. Deaf Utah Hiker - yes pls make some vlogs on the workshops at the DS Today conference. Glad you enjoyed the Visual History workshop - its an important topic and i hope more folks will conduct videotaped interviews etc.
4. Deb ann - i do hope you can bring the Deafhood workshop to your home state - they were awesome in Rochester
5. Lipstick - glad u got to go to the conference. The Keynotes were awesome. Glad you liked the Heart of Deaf Culture presentation despite problems with the DVD running video clips.
