On March 29, 2008 a full day workshop on Deafhood led by Genie Gertz, David Eberwein, and Ella Mae Lentz was enjoyed by Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Hearing, young, young at heart, folks from Rochester, out of state and outside the U.S. GRCASLTA hosted the event, committee members and volunteers came from GRCASLTA, Orange & Brown Coalition, NTID/RIT, Keuka College and the community. The day would not have been possible if not for the generosity of so many amazing sponsors.

    I hope that Ella, Gene, and DE
    will present a lecture on
    Deafhood here in Washington, D.C. Over 2,000 students at
    Gallaudet in addition to over
    10,000 deaf people in the Metro
    of DC-MD-VA would love to attend
    some time in the Fall.

    TOUCH-HEART!!!!! Rochester’s hospitality, open-mindedness, and strong community resources was EVIDENT last weekend. Miss you all very much, and most importantly, thank you for coming together. Rochester is a beautiful community ready to rumble.

    Oh yes, Rochester is a great place for its acceptance of the diversity in the deaf community. One of things I miss Rochester… its tolerance of diversity… as well as Wegman’s. :o)

    No, I did not attend the Rochester’s Deafhood workshop, but I did attend Indianapolis’s Deafhood workshop last year.

    I believe that workshop will be great influence to Deaf Schools. Deaf Schools will tell Deaf Student that it is great to be Deaf.

    That is great to know everyone is enjoying Deafhood workshops so far. I am eager to do it for St. Louis, Missouri and it will be on November 1, 2008.

    I knew when ASLTA Board decided to invite Ella as our keynote speaker for our NPDC (National Professional Development Conference) in Tampa, FL that we would be able to honor Deafhood. I’m delighted to see these presentations continuing in other areas; thank you Patti Durr for creating this webpage, and sharing these comments with the community! Very inspiring.
