Three Years Later, Murdered Deaf Woman Receives No Justice

Remember Chris Lambert?  He’s the deaf ex-boyfriend arrested and charged in the fatal stabbing of Tallie Antolin (her body was stored at a balcony outside her apartment for four days in the sweltering heat in North Carolina).

This horrendous murder took place in May of 2004. To this day, his trial has yet to begin.

Daphne Wright killed and dismembered an innocent Deaf woman, Darlene VanderGiesen and she faced a trial after slightly over one year.

Doug Bahl, roughly beaten by cops last winter during a traffic stop, underwent a trial in less than a year.

Chris Lambert and his lawyer, Mr Cunnings, manipulated the court system for three years–no trial formally scheduled until last month. It was postponed–again.  It has been over three years, four months, and two weeks since her murder.

Will Tallie get her justice today? Will the judge set a firm date for the trial of Chris Lambert for the murder of Tallie?

Or will it be manipulated again by Chris Lambert and Mr. Cunnings, providing no closure for Tallie’s grieving family and friends?

We will find out the answer today.

Update: Bad news. The trial has been postponed again ….. to June of 2008. This means it’ll be held exactly four years and one month after Tallie’s murder. This is wrong and unacceptable. I feel very bad for Tallie’s family and friends. It’s bad enough that they had to lose their beloved one, but to be jerked around by the judicial court and not finding the closure.. this is very cruel.  First Bahl’s miscarriage of justice, now Tallie not getting justice. These are so outrageous.  MZ

Drats, I know Tallie from Gallaudet.. She is very nice and lovely woman… I understand that Chris did murder Tallie. I was very shocked for what he did to Tallie … it made me angry!!!

  2. A Deaf Pundit Says:

That’s very typical of criminal cases, especially if you have a good attorney.

Daphne Wright’s case was an exception because it was so high-profile. Bahl’s case as well, because it involved cops. The courts tend to move quickly on assaults involving the police.

    Not very surprising to me.

well, keep us post if the family finally gets some closure. ugh too long and sneaky alright.

  4. Rosa Lee Says:

What has Chris Lambert been doing for the past 4 years? Has he been locked up or has he been out on a bond?

  5. Why Says:

“We will find out the answer today.”

What’s happening today that will answer your questions?

  6. Mishka Zena Says:

I recall vaguely his lawyer is a public defender, but I’ll need to double check on that.

Lambert had been in jail since his arrest. He was never released on bail.

The answer being that the date will be formally set for his murder trial. It hasn’t yet, which makes it impossible for Tallie’s family and friends to find closure.

  7. Why Says:

Where do you get your information from? Is it posted online somewhere within the NC justice system that there is a meeting today for that?

  8. deafk Says:

hi, could you post Tallie’s picture and Chris’s, please? I think I might met them in the past???

Just looked up my datebook … what takes so long? Nearly 4 years! I had never meet Tallie but I am waiting for the closure for Tallie’s family and friends. I feel bad for them.

I know CL bec he was my ex co-workers. Still hard to believe that Tallie was murdered by him. CL is still sitting in jail .. yes he gets high bail but no money or his family decides not to let him out. This is all I heard.

I’ve been in contact with her friends and family for some time. That’s where I get my updates. I only publish some, with their permission. The other information are kept private out of respect for them.

DeafK, I have the pictures. I’ll see if I can get them published in the blog. I think I’ll need someone to help me do that as I don’t have the code to do that.

    Ok, Thanks, MZ,

I am concerned that we do not do much about the deaf and the justice. We only talk, and write… Then what? I mean, recently we got DBC organization established. Wow, that is so neat about it.. Now, we are very concerned about this sitation with deaf and polices.

NAD cannot do much for the huge, vast USA. Only a few. We could see that a lot of cases or situations are not even investiaged by NAD. What can we do about it??

That is where I am concerned all about deaf and polices… We need the actions, of course… What?? I do not know if I am asking too much, but that is an issue that we need to figure out what we can do about it!!!

    Deafk,

I feel the same way, too. When I resurfaced in the Deaf community last summer, I noticed this void, especially when I tried to help a hearing woman whose family friend (developmentally challenged deaf guy) got tasered by the cops like five or seven times.. for being deaf and not understanding what’s going on. She was pretty much left alone to try to deal with the police. The local deaf resource center wasn’t any help, according to that woman. The police never got disciplined for tasering an innocent man, I think.

Then I got the same feeling with wright case, tallie’s, bahl’s.. it is a scary feeling.. it seems there isn’t a safety net for deaf people with the judicial system, nor with the deaf people and the police. I do what I can as a blogger and deaf advocate, but it isn’t much. Unfortunately there is no organization specializing in this area, though NAD Legal Center was consulted in one case, so did DeafHope with a letter.

Maybe this is something we all can do now that we are aware of the missing safety net.

I knew Christopher from Boston.. a very bright fella and what happened is very unfortunate. I feel bad for Tallie’s family. She was very bright and the last time I saw her alive was in Washington, D.C., when I went there to meet Christopher.

Although I considered both friends, my heart goes out to Tallie and inasmuch as I hate to say this, I hope justice is served. Tallie is gone and that is not right.

  14. SnoopyFreak02 Says:

i just did click another link and there is NO picture of Tallie or Chris either!! huh????

I know Tallie very well and she was very sweet woman and very good student at Gallaudet. Sadly that Tallie is now gone and that is NOT right…

  15. deafk Says:

    Hi, MZ,

Funny thing, I just talked to someone about this deaf and police issues. I said that the stories about deaf and police are SCARY… Then you mentioned it being scary… Guess it is how we are feeling right now, uncertainty, uneasy and SCARY! Oh, I just exaggerate.. Perhaps a little too much of it. Okay, I am thinking what we can do about it. Mulling over deeply…

  16. mishkazena Says:

    DeafK,

Not an exaggeration. I am truly alarmed. A good hearing friend of mine read the post on Bahl two nights ago night and exclaimed to me “why isn’t the media hearing this? this is so wrong!” Other hearing friends checked and they all said the same thing.. that they were very appalled and also surprised it’s not being covered by media.

But we need to respect Bahl’s wishes. Right now, he doesn’t want to talk about this.

  17. TOmmy Says:

I will send a message my nephew, he is unknown middle of CITY cop. I will let you know what he says
