Slemo Warigon, Owner of GallyNet Terminated
Slemo Warigon who set up GallyNet, a listserv where Gallaudet stakeholders discuss various issues, including Gallaudet, announced today that he was terminated immediately as Gallaudet internal auditor due to his involvement of GallyNet-L .
For those who didn’t know, GallyNet-L was instrumental in educating Gallaudet stakeholders the myriad issues facing Gallaudet. Â GallyNet-L was also a wealth of information during the protest where many people shared their opinions, often anonymous, due to fear of reprisals.Â

So this was a reprisal termination? Or a conflict of interest?

Wow…Brian Riley was all over him. I bet he played a major role in this.
Funny, HE got away with a lot of things, didn’t he?
But Selmo…? Hmm…. from what I’ve been reading, he always, always, always responded in RESPECT.
Which I can’t say the same for Brian Riley.
I’m not happy about this.

IamMine: I am confident that Brian Riley has nothing to do with it.

Well, I shouldn’t have made assumptions - and for that I should apologize.
But I can’t help but wondering if Riley did help out on that, though.
He did dig up so hard on him with his blog, going on and on and on about him.
He had to have some influences on this, didn’t he?
It’s just my assumptions, of course.

People at Gallaudet joked and regarded Riley as a gnat.
That’s the attitude I see at Gallaudet back then, though.
Maybe I’m wrong.

I’m sure there are good reasons why Gallaudet is “cleaning house”. There’s two sides to every story. I’m sure we all will know the truth in good time.

Brian Riley is PNG at Gally, so if he had a chance to get thru to DaVillian, then that sure speaks volumnes about what kind of leader DaVillian is….
However, I dont think he had anything to do with it. I believe its the fact that Davila wants to shut down GallyNet for whatever reasons he has….since some people ARE talking abt him. Even now, its getting hot over there and people arent happy abt this. Davillian sure did shoot hsi foot off….whats next? His nose?
What is happening is pure censorship. Dumb move on Davillian’s part….cant wait for the lawyers to start the ball moving….

Slemo Warigon violated a former employee’s privacy rights by publishing her confidential work history.
This has nothing to do with questions of free speech or censorship. Plain and simple. Gallynet-L is still in operation, and Slemo is continuing to leak confidential internal Gallaudet memos, even *after* being fired.

It’s definitely censorship.
It doesn’t matter whether one likes Slemo or not. What matters here is how the whole thing was handled, and what matters is what kind of rights were trampled on in the process.
Regardless of Slemo’s position, he was always courteous in his response. He always posted material on gally-net L, even if he disagreed with it.
This whole thing is about Bob Davila and his tentacles of control.

If Slemo worked there and he was posting confidential work information, and so on, then I would have to say that is a conflict of interest.
You don’t see NTID employees hosting a website or a listserv where there’s tons of people bashing NTID or hashing pretty inflammatory and potentially damaging information about another employee at NTID.
I don’t know the whole story, obviously, but from where I’m standing at, it does seem like he was fired because of a conflict of interest issue. *shrugs*

Why the DaVillan? What did he do to you? Hope you don’t mind me asking.

I find it interesting that Jordan, despite of his negative actions on campus, didn’t actively interfere with GallyNet, but Davila did twice, by contacting the Deaf owner of server GallyNet was on a month ago with the result of GallyNet being severed, then now with the axing of Slemo as a result of his involvement of GallyNet.
But Jordan didn’t, even though many Gallynetters cast Fernandes and Jordan in negative light and GallyNet helped contributed to the success of Unity for Gallaudet.
This made some see this as an act of censorship and that Davila used the ‘conflict of interests’ as a pretext when Jordan never did.
Whatever the reason is, this act of termination has disturbed some people, not just among Fernandes sympathizers, but also some of the Fernandes opponents. GallyNet carries both pro Fernandes and anti Fernandes sentiments by readers from diverse backgrounds of education, communication, and race, etc. Some people appreciate GallyNet whereby others hate it. But the bottom line is that it is a listserv where people gets the opportunity to hear different sides, both positive and negative. At times it can be brutal but often is enlightening. Hence the rallying of support for Selmo, even from some Pro Unity GallyNetters. For them, the most important priority is the right of free speech guaranteed by our Bill of Rights.
Will this interfere with the healing of Gallaudet or not as some claim? Time will tell.

Thank you! This man does not have a good history with Gally people. It surprises me that he’ll interview people for a specific job and then take one of the weakest people in order to get them fired and then start it all over again.
Hearing him gone is one of the best things. Gally’s finances are a mess and needs an IRS accountant to come in and look at what’s really happening.
But as for GallyLNet server? Don’t expect for a ressurection of it.

To The Deaf Sherlock,
Do you have any evidences to support your speculations, some of which are very wild and absurd?

Mishka Zena,
That is very true, Jordan didn’t interfere with GallyNet– despite the fact that his name was dragged through the mud there.
I personally wonder if Davila is doing what he can to prevent a possible protest. Maybe it’s because he intends to stay on as president, permanently.
So, maybe this is just the beginning of a clean-up job to prevent a possible protest in 2 years when his “temporary” status is up. (That is assuming that this is the intentions of the BOT.. To keep him on as president) I wonder.
I think that he’s going to next move on to Deafread… Then the bloggers themselves. That is- if this is his agenda.
If this does happen, we need to band together and support each other, all of us- And ensure that Davilian trolls & spies are & remain unwelcome in our community.

to Deaf Sherlock- Get your facts straight!
And, YOU think Gally Needs a IRS person? If evrything at Gally is a mess-it’s because of the IKJ/Fernandes people. YOU STILL SAY THAT THE PROTRESTS WAS A BAD IDEAL-yet you say things that confirms what the protetsers have said: that we did what we did to save Gallaudet from irreversible damamge. YOU CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!
