Now we have a Deaf person listed as one of the most notorious killers, in the chainsaw category, of Crime Library. This post is slightly outdated, as we can see.
“In a supposed lesbian love triangle, Daphne Wright, a deaf woman, is going on trial for killing Darlene VanderGeisen in February 2006. The victim’s body parts were found scattered in a landfill and bone fragments and tissue that matched her turned up in Wright’s basement. She had been bludgeoned and then cut apart with a chainsaw. Chuck: So far, two people have told me the interpreters in the front of the courtroom - the people Daphne looked at to know what was going on - weren’t very good. That the intepreters were sloppy or just not very good.
From a Deaf spectator:Â I saw how the interpreters worked. It was very clear they were doing their jobs.

Daphne Wright swallowed hard and began to cry as she read a guilty verdict on the hands of her American Sign Language interpreter.
The jury deliberated for seven hours before turning in its verdict just before noon Thursday, setting up a possible death sentence for Wright.
She was found guilty of premeditated murder, kidnapping and murder while committing kidnapping against 42-year-old Darlene VanderGiesen in February 2006.

I think she stay in jail rest of her life as punishment instead of put to death.

Actually- the correct word is Murder. I’v studied hebrew and other languages that forms the basis of our Bible, the Ten Commendments, etc. The correct word is a hebrew word that really should have been translated as “murder”. Thus the correct translation should have been : “Thou shall not murder”. There is a big difference bewteen “killing” and “murder”.
If you want to be consistance with what the Old Testement says(for christians and jews) then it explains why God allowed the state to put away a person who commited murder. Because commiting murder is a violation of life and of his (God) Ten Commendments. Killing is not. See, for example, all those stories when Israel was attacked (again in the Bible).
I do’nt know if Wright desevres to die for this.
On one hand it appears that she committted these terrible crimes for which she was found guilty.
If the law says death, then be it so. I don’t want to factor that she is Deaf- because it would looked like she was given special treatment. We have all been saying that we (the Deaf) want to be treated as equal as the hearing world. That also means responsiblity of the laws and accepting the punishment of the Law.
On the other hand-it is sad when a person-any person- has to be put to death.

What does this have to do with the whole issue??? It’s about a brutal murderer being brought to justice as well as concerns about the fairness of the trial of a Deaf person. The murderer just happens to be a lesbian. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with Daphne’s terrible choices. Please spare us your silly homophobia.

Its interesting that Daphne used chain saw, its not an easy tool to use, as its kinda of heavy, i also wonder if Daphne was in drugs, possibly her lover Sallie was an enabler or used as to supply money for Daphne to buy drugs and when she left her, Daphne became very desperate and went stir crazy. Hopefully one true crime writer will take up this assignment and write about her and we will have more insight into Daphne, Darlene, Sallie and other things.

Sallie HAVE NOTHING do with this murder!! Sallie have a AIRTIGHT and STRONG like a CEMENT ALIBI!
DNA doesnt match her at all.. DNA matches on Darlene AND DW.. DW murdered Darlene over the jealousy NOT becuase of Daphne was under of influence. RME..
Sallie broke up with Daphne last Fall 2005 - Moved out on her own apartment. Tell me how does that make her an enabler - Daphne did this ALL to herself! Nobody else, not Sallie, not you, not the government, or whoever else!
I suggest you to read newspaper and get the facts in your mind.

I guess i didnt convey my message very clearly and i apologize for this. What i was trying to say (perhaps the word enabler was not good wording to use) on my theory that it is possible that Sallie was victim (hope this is good word to use) of Daphne, Darlene came in the picture and helped Sallie get out and this enraged Daphne and she could not deal with this kind of frustration and depression. Was it because Daphne was addicted to drugs, or suffered from depression, anxiety or abandonment because Sallie was not there anymore to help Daphne feel good or meet her needs. This is just my theory and i could be wrong on this. This case sounds more than just pure simple jealousy as there are lot of complex issues going on that we are not aware of. It could be that Darlene saved “Sallie’s life” by rescuing her from Daphne and ended up dead herself. This is very tragic and sad case for all involved.

Your right: Enabler is not a right word. It implies that you thought that She may be any involvement.
She was a victim of abusive relationship with Daphne. Sallie finally got a courage to move out after 4 and half year relationship.
The simple fact: Darlene and Sallie was only a good plantoic friendhip - Darlene has a excellent personality, love to tease, smlie, and like cheer people up.
Their friendship was a innocent plain friends. Daphne thought Darlene tried to destroy Sallie’s relationship but the relationship never exist. That’s why Daphne was so angry at Darlene for visiting Sallie often.
Can a friend visit each others often? Sure! I do aware that Daphne has alot of issues in her background and she has alot of problems herself.
So, remember: Darlene was straight - Daphne wants Sallie back but Sallie dont want to do anything with her anymore.
You may wonder if I knew too much.. Yes I do know too much
I think it would be good to talk to you if you would like to get a clear picture?
Your forgiven and you weren’t only ones because other people says something about Sallie which was not true.

I would wonder if Daphne was on meth that night…folks on meth sure do odd things while being on a rush/high….
(just came out of a workshop learning about meth, its effects on users and stuff.)

Meth? I dont think so because I don’t see any face changes after use of Meth.
Meth is very dangerous drug, of course, I remembered the story about Meth in one article somewhere.. You would not remember anything next day.
But.. Daphne does remember the night when she lured Darlene into Daphne’s SUV, led her to her house then murdered Darlene. Left a body for 2 days then chopped her up and throw the body away.
Of course, she denied it and change many stories.
Sure, Drugs does have effect with behavior and violence. In this case: I dont think so. She was clear-minded and knew what she was doing.
It’ll be good to put a memorial website or blog on Darlene so people can say something great about her.

i do not think daphne used drugs to murder.
someone told me “once a woman kiss daphne’s lip, she OWNS this woman” That scary one.
She is a controller, macho-woman type, meanest, Dr. jekyll and mr. hyde!

I would like to clarify with you. Yes, Daphne used the Chainsaw. Only thing is that the police can’t find the chainsaw BUT FOUND the chainsaw oil.. They found the reciept that Daphne bought Chainsaw… The detective bought the same brand of chainsaw that Daphne bought.
They experiment it on the pig, and the pattern of chainsaw that used on Darlene and the pig.. The pattern is the exact match.
If Daphne did not use the chainsaw, then why they found the recipt of chainsaw purchase? Why two witnesses who worked at ACE Hardware says Daphne bought the chainsaw.
They testified at court.. They pointed at Daphne - Who bought the chainsaw on Feb 3 in the morning then went back to same store in mid-afternoon to buy oil.

Chainshaw was used to cut up her body after Darlene died. Not murder her with it. Ugh Only to get rid the evidences. Unfortunately — Both Direct and circumstance evidences popping up everywhere and pointing at her even Daphne denied the murder. Sigh … I guess she is not masterminded at all. Still thinking of Darlene’s parents. I am sure they are disturbed by seeing the photos in court. I am worried about them and … her dear friends too.
