Appalling Silence

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of
social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the
appalling silence of the good people.”

– Martin Luther King, Jr.

I saw that quote at GallyNet and thought it fitting to be reprinted here.  elizabeth

Silence is not golden! It is almost like neutrality.

  2. Ben Vess Says:

Neutrality is not necessarily a bad thing. I don’t think that’s what Dr. King meant though.

Sometimes, I believe silence is a better weapon than spewing hateful words.

This quote really makes sense to me, because history will watch and record us taking ACTION to make some social change (social transition) - if we don’t take ACTION (signing, speaking, writing, protesting, etc) then it is a greatest tragedy.

This reminds me of a vlog that I created - and it sufficiently made the point.

Action in moderation my friend, not in the extremes unless it is the last resort.

    To Ben Vess in #2:

Perhaps you should read Dante’s Divine Comedy, including Inferno and find out into which circle neutral people would be placed. :)

  7. Mishka Zena Says:

Action is necessary to stop the social injustices. Not to is to condone these wrongs.

lol wow. dante was excellent. read the dual language version…could follow a a lil bit of italian based obn my french…

uhmm. i belong in the 7th or 8th level in hell. just a couplefrom the bottom.

neutrality is a good thing every now and then. but then again im already going to be cast in that inferno.
