Doug Bahl and Police Brutality: A Follow-Up

Doug Bahl sends this message for the Deaf Community:

He is fine with the support of  his family and close friends. He asks that the Deaf Community respect his wishes and leave him alone regarding this unfortunate incident. He cannot talk about his experience, so please don’t ask him any questions. His lawyers are working on it and he will seek justice at court.

Incidentally I’ve been aware of the police brutality incident from the beginning.  I asked Doug through his close friend if it was ok for me to inform the Deaf Community. He didn’t want to, so naturally I respected his privacy. He will send me a personal vlog for the Deaf Community and when I get the the vlog, I will post it for readers to watch.

Understandably we all would like to contact Doug and give him our best regards, but we should all respect his wishes and leave him alone.

  4. Mr. Sandman’s Sandbox » Not Again… Says:

[…] As many of you probably already know, Doug Bahl was assaulted by officers in Minnesota, apparently after a routine traffic stop. According to the initial online reports through various blogs, Bahl was pepper sprayed in the eyes, then beaten, then held over an entire weekend, all without the benefit of an interpreter, before he was released. You can see pictures of Bahl here, and Mishka Zena and Ridor both commented on this sad incident. MNSpeak also comments about Bahl’s run-in with the police. […]

  5. Mishka Zena Says:

It is a nightmare. I hope he will get justice

  6. Christine Says:

I can image it will happen one of us someday because I feel that it is no law yet. Once it gets strong law and we all will feel safe and get an interpreter first before we can go ahead… Sorry to hear that happened to you as I do not know you but I feel that you need a big support, smile Christine

  7. Ben Says:

police brutality clearly affects more people than the average citizen would think. hearing or deaf; black, white, blind, hispanic, handicapped, etc., etc., etc.; AMERICAN CITIZENS have no rights when cops can just beat people up for no reason. NOBODY should live in fear.

  8. Dala McNew Says:

    Doug,
I was so shocked to see this happened to you. I was a student of yours when you taught in Faribault and you were one of my favorite teachers. I am so ashamed of the police dept. and can’t believe things like this still happen!? Please take care!!
