Aggregator? Is it good or bad?
Hello, everyone…
Even though we all know DeafRead and DeafVideo are also one of aggregators which is fine by me. However, there are a couple of aggregators that I feel not very comfortable about. They are www.deafworld.com and www.hear-for-live.org. Especially that latter site that I’m the most UNCOMFORTABLE and not very happy.
I was planning on doing my vlogs soon but I can’t because I don’t want those aggregtors to embed my vlogs/blogs into their sites. I’m not a very happy camper. That doesn’t serve any purpose even though that latter site insists that it would help hearing people understand the deaf community. I don’t believe him because knowing him, he would take a pleasure to leer or whatever he’s doing. He doesn’t do any good for his “so-called” organization. He has been well known for causing some uproars among the deaf people. We do not want him to take all of my and your vlogs and blogs and post at his own site.
Yes, I’m very aware that our vlogs have been through YouTube, Google, etc. which are public to all. That wouldn’t be a problem since they are needed to be embedded in our blogs and DeafVideo site. But let him and other sites or people taking our videos and blogs without our permission? NO!
No, you may not post my blog to the aggregator sites without my permission. That is unacceptable.
I’m sorry that I don’t know when will I start my vlogs/blogs again because of that.
Ciao, Misha

Duh me!
I forgot to add to ask you what is your opinion on this one. I’m sorry about it.
Let’s discuss this….
Insane Misha
Misha,
I can feel the same way I want to start vlog somehow I change and getting feeling mixed about vlog. I only once put my first blog was not accurate information and turn me off. No one response. I need to improve my english.
Something I keep feeling uncomfortable about being stay home all day or not do anything about “Aggregator. I got a few attacked me by aggregator. It is being difficult decision to put a new vlog. I plan to get start .. I had to stopped because of Job hunting has been so hard on me lately.
Thank you for share and understand the way they treat you bad or good ..
Deaf Pixie
Mish
I agree with you as there should be a simple invitation to ask permission before the go ahead rather than flogging other people vlog even they dont know that someone did take it and found out later it was not permitted.
Use some curtesy to ask ! Dont go around flogging coz you think it fun .. it is not its downright RUDE !!
Good post. I do not know what’s happening with http://www.deafworld.com and http://www.hear-for-live.org. I was behind on that one. DRMZZ made a vlog recently and mentioned that he doesn’t want his vlog to be on http://www.deafworld.com or other. I thought about it how to prevent. Maybe we can put open and close vlog “This is property only for http://www.deafread.com and http://www.deafvideo.tv (and other site you want specific allowing).” And need to add information in close part that if anyone wants to use our vlog to their site other than deafread.com and deafvideo.tv, then they MUST ask for permit. If we accept, then we modify and add site’s name to our vlogs that clearly specific we allow.
OMG! I’m so behind!! I never heard of deafworld and hear-for-live. What is this world coming to?
Let me check these right now…
I don’t mind having my videos embed on any sites only if they don’t make profits from it. I already took mine off one of deaf video sites since they make profits on advertisements.
I gonna find out about deafworld and hear-for-live then. I don’t find how fair it is to post my videos without my permission while they’d make some profits.

I know about deafworld it is update of news. and I also never heard of hear-for-live.
I am going to loooking of these website.
Deaf Pixie
Once you enter the internet world, it is not safe for you anymore.
That’s why we always put our link (fookembug.wordpress.com) in video so the people will know where they get it from.
Seekgeo, see this site?
http://video.seekdeaf.com/play.php?vid=85
Hey Fookem,
OMG.. I had no idea on that one, thanks for sharing, now I wonder how many more is it out there.
OMG.. my freaking hell.. you know I just noticed? He not only used my video, he removed “seekgeo.com” off my video!
If you look at my original video: http://www.seekgeo.com/?p=886 right at the beginning of video that says “seekgeo.com” below Hell’s Kitchen.
He actually removed it?! I am gonna do something about it, thanks for the info.
-SG
I share ur concern and all commenters’. I’m under the impression that you have to voluntarily subscribe to an aggregator in order to have your published v/blog posted there. But, I’m seeing aggressors like these two “aggregator” that included vloggers w/o their consent and I don’t like that. Will have to add text info on vlogs now.
Hmmm… interesting. There is one more aggregator that I know of (www.deafpulse.com.) Yeah, I raised my eyebrows at the two new aggregators, but like Taylor said, once you are in internet, the rules are often different… and sadly, we see people taking advantage of it… cyberbullying, ID theft, etc.
You could email to the creators and ask that your v/blogs are to be removed from their aggregators.
Ptttth to SeekDeaf.com!!!!
Before reading Fookem and SeekGeo’s comments…I thought seekdeaf.com wasn’t that bad when I checked it out about one month ago…I go there like 2 times a week.
Now I can see where SeekGeo is coming from by saying “seekgeo.com” was removed. That shouldn’t have happened at all.
I guess from now on we need to put our link at the beginning of the video until the end of it.
it’s getting scary
SG,
I did not notice that he removed “seekgeo.com” off. Unbelievable.
Again, we put our fookembug.wordpress.com from the beginning to the end of the video. They can’t remove it.
I am amazed!
Seek Geo- did you notice something else? He not only removed “seekgeo.com” but he also inserted “SEEKDEAF Video” on your video all the way from beginning to the end as if he is claiming the ownership of your video!
That is so wrong!
There is one way to prevent… use webhosting for your video hosting like some vbloggers.
Seek Geo-
There is more… If you go to your video at seekdeaf video’s site, you will see “Add Video to Your Blog” at right side. Look at “Video url” and “Embed” address. Yes, that’s right, people can embed your video at their blogs and anywhere and who gets traffic? SeekDeaf Video, not yours.
If anyone asks me, I’d say that is stealing. Yes that applies to other new “aggregator-wanna-be’s.”
This is interesting.
Read their policy: In order to use some of the services offered on our Site you must register with SEEKDEAF VIDEO by filling out and submitting our registration form.
Well, apparently they are violating their own policy if they are including vlogs from others without authorization.
Hey brenster,
You got that right about stealing, a friend of mine found the law part which is:
“User Conduct and Responsibilities: You will not use the tools available on the Site for any unlawful purpose, including without limitation, linking video content to libelous or other unlawful material, including matter that may be construed as invasion of privacy, violation of a right of publicity, infringement of a copyright, a patent, or a trademark, and/or theft of trade secrets or any other right of a person or party. Without limitation, you agree to not use the Site or the embeddable player to place hyperlinks to, add, post, transmit, share, store or otherwise make available…”
So, basically he downloaded my video into his own video embed as like he is rightful owner, violation of a right of publicity, infringment of copyright, a trademark (by removing my seekgeo.com image and put his own logo.)
Also, he did not even bother to give out a link to my website. You know what is even worse, he didn’t even mention the name of mine. He just said “Deaf man performs Hell’s Kitchen” as like I’m some sorta strange person.
I already emailed him to remove all of my videos since he removed seekgeo.com and am waiting to hear from him. If no word since, I will seek some legal action.
Thanks, mishkazena! That is perfect to use against their own practice.
-SG
Thanks for your comments, everyone!
Wow, Karen, I’ve forgotten all about DeafPulse! I recalled seeing it everywhere trying to take some v/blogs as well.
brenster, I agree that is not right of seekdeaf trying to steal. Take a look at mishkazena’s comment (#16).
drmzz, that’s why I saw your vlog that got me thinking about the situations after keeping hearing alot about stealing b/vlogs. Even one deaf artist’s work are being stolen that has gotten him very upset and angry.
Fookem, thanks for informing us about seekdeaf site. That site I have never visited since it requires the registration that I don’t bother. I knew something isn’t right about that site.
Lane, I agree. I wish I know how to put my link on my vlogs. I’m clueless, LOL!
MishkaZena, I’m glad you discovered seekdeaf’s policy being violated on its own.
We need to do something about this situation ASAP.
Misha
Geo,
I hope seekdeaf site will heed your warning. If not, contact the legal department ASAP. Don’t wait too long.
Wish you a lot of luck!
Misha
Hey, Misha,
I’ve been wondering if it’s legal for aggregators to post links to your vlogs without asking you first and without you subscribing to the aggregator’s website.
I do know that alot of people make webpages and add links to others’ websites without asking them. People are usually flattered when someone post links to their websites because it usually means more hits to their websites and in the case of vlogs, it means more viewers.
I’d love to know what others think.

Curious what Deafworld.com is doing that is raising concern among bloggers? They seem to be more of a news aggregator?
Optimist,
That is very sticky situation but I personally feel it is NOT right to do that without anybody’s permission.
However for putting anybody’s v/blogs up at the site for the purpose to make the profits off of that, it is really illegan somewhat.
As for blogrolls, link lists and whatnot, it is perfectly legal to put anybody’s link to reach more wider audience without having them into aggregators sites.
It’s kinda like in gray’s area in a way, I think….
But that’s something to think about though.
Misha
Misha,
I have been looking at the aggregator sites and I can now see the reason for the uproar in the deaf community. The deaf community doesn’t seem to like the idea of those sites making monies off of your vlogs which is understandable.

[…] Here’s the site Misha blogged where that got my attention that leads me to seekdeaf.com: Click here […]
I would think that anyone has the right to add a publicly available feed.
But the more attention these alternate sites get, the better they will do.
If someone finds some supported/enforced laws regarding this, please blog about them.
That is a copyright violations so you can sue them for that action. Hope that they’ll wake up and not to do that again. It needs to be set an example for the internet world. Deaf person is not an exemption from the law.
omg….unbelievable….Hope they do something about it…..im planning to vlog, but now this….makes me feel UNSAFE…..Thanks MZ for investigating….you’re very goooood!!! and to misha & fookem, thanks for the advise/warning…..stay together
You all have no idea how SNEAKY these folks are on SEEK DEAF.. they are patronizing and manipulating..Now you can add theft to their list of SCREW UPS..
I know alot of people who have vlogged in the past are now starting to feel violated by people who are nicking videos..and using it for their own gain,, this is a big NO NO !!!
I think it took SEEK DEAF to shake things up and make every one sit up and notice ..
What SEEKDEAF did to GEO was WRONG.. and they should not get away with it, and a slap on the wrist is not enuff,,they knew damn well what they were doing, and of course they are playing INNOCENT..
Misha thanks for shaking things up,, and Fookem and Geo and every one else thanks for doing excellent investigating,,,I think more vloggers are more aware of things now,, so A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU
Mwahhhhhh
Just Jodi
To follow up since this has been stated about violating the copyrights. SEEKGEO, can you give the ‘up to date’ on your statis? Keep us inform. I like to know but also finding out if you have a case against SEEKMEEK.
flbigmouth
Richard Roehm DID infringe our privacy copyright without our permission. HE have NO right!!
Hello all?
I’m here first time,
//KO
I read similar article also named Aggregator? Is it good or bad?, and it was completely different. Personally, I agree with you more, because this article makes a little bit more sense for me
