The Blue Jeans Protest at Deaf School
Posted on February 6th, 2008 by misha
Hello!
I’d like to share my memorable and funny story that happened at my deaf oral school. It was back in late Spring of 1974. I was a freshman at that time. Back then, it sounded very radical.
I’d like to hear your funny and most memorable stories about happenings at your deaf or any other schools.
P.S. Notice that painting behind me? That painting is me when I was about five or six years old when I was sitting for one of my mom’s painting. I hate that painting but my hubby loves it and asked for it when he came across it in my mom’s attic. Ugh! Oh well!
Enjoy!
Ciao,
Misha

Wow, it was very interesting story! Sure, there are some better ways to protest but at least I’m happy that everyone were okay and nothing has gotten worse especially the principal. At least everything turned out positive and you all finally get to wear jeans!
I remember when I visited Australia, they asked me why it was so important for us to wear whatever we want to school cuz they wear uniforms, I told them that I guess it shouldn’t matter what kind of clothes we wear as long as we come in to get education. He he..
Oh, I was born in 1974!

Actually, according to Seniors and Juniors, they did bring up that issue to adminstrators but that fell on deaf ears. That’s why the protest was born. LOL!

I remember we were not allowed to wear blue jeans or sneakers. And we were not allowed to wear mini-skirts. I was once sent home because my mini-skirt was too short!!!! Now how the times have changed. I think it is good to have the dress codes cuz it brings good memories that we now can laugh! Now the kids can wear anything and what kind of memories do they have? None!!!!!
Ziggy….
Funny thing is we were allowed to wear the sneakers but no blue jeans. Go figure…

Wow interesting!
We were not allowed to wear jeans in school and on Sundays. Grrr. We had to wear the dresses or a blouses and skirts. No pants and jeans! Even the boys couldn’t wear the jeans in school also. We only can wear the jeans on Saturdays. That was in late 1969’s.
