Alcohol kills over 100,000 people a year!
But why is Alcohol and Smoking legal?
Why America let AGBell organization to legally advocate against sign language?
All the answer above is just one word:Â CAPITALISM
This is how America operates, death in people is not important. It is the business that revenues money that can give people jobs, it is the growth in economy that can be taxed.
This is the capitalism philosophy in America that revenues monies.
Many political people in Congress and the media are raising hell about 3,300 deaths in the past four years in Iraq, only 825 deaths a year…in comparison to alcohol and smoking….you might ask why they(Congress) are more concern about 825 deaths from Iraq?…..Because it got nothing to do with capitalism.
Now, you ask why AGBell are allowed(legally) to “destroy†Deaf child’s right to learn sign language?
Again, it is all about capitalism.
Many business depend on AGBell’s eugenic philosophy to keep business such as speech therapist, audiologist, private oral schools, cochlear implant industry, three year cochlear related speech therapy classes, hearing aid industry, Insurance industry that pays cochlear implants, etc, etc, etc to generate monies to keep the capitalism alive in America.
Can we ever achieve our goal to see that every Deaf child of having the right to have a bona fide visual sign language?…….Maybe not.
In comparison to the AGBell empire organization, sometime I feel like an ant.
But I will not give up,….every problem got a solution.
Remember David and Goliath?

America has been long history of capitalism from English joint stock companies in colonial America to today Corporate America.
The captialism was coming from Adam Smith in England then it was strongly influenced to the founding fathers in America. Some of the founding fathers were wealthy slave owners. The capitalism always had changed and caused the trouble in America since a new nation in 1776. There are nothing news.
The people who own the business, always usually look to buy the cheap property, sell the things from their property and create the large amount of profits from selling the things that how to run the economy in America. They don’t care about the people in the poverty, the minorities, and us. They all think about money, lust for attention and power.
The smoking cigarette’s corporations have exploited the people’s money to buy the cigarette pack, then their money already has been into the corporate elites’ throat and said haha, thank you for still paying me for the many deaths.
Same as USA government sent many young men and women to the unjustifed war in Iraq to fight for capitalism and their results are more killed in action. USA men and women are coming to fight for Iraq’s freedom but really not, they are coming to fight for Halliburton Corp, Aegis, Carlyle Corp and other corporations. You know that President George W. Bush and VP Dick Cheney were corporate elites.
What a tragic for our America in the future.
Alexander Graham Bell was corporate elite too because he once purchased the American Telephone and Telegraph company, and made the profits from the telephone and his philosophy of eugencis to the Deaf people in America. He used his fund from the corporations to campagin against the philosophy of sign language for the Deaf communities around the World.
What a tragic to the our Deaf communities in America in the future.
I quitted smoking when I was 21 years old and stopped to go to McDonald’s since a year ago. McDonald is food chain corporation to making the people have obesity problem.
I think Communism or Socialism would be great for our Deaf community because Socialist government tends to pay all citizens to go to the hospital for free health care, go to the school with higher learning for free, and go to the social club for free too. But it wont work well in America.
I noticed Corporate already has ruled America and made us less our freedom, individual right, and fair competition.
That’s why FSSA coalition had uprising against the administration and board of trustees over the selection of Dr. Jane K. Fernandes last October 2006 because FSSA coalition did not want to see Jane has good relationship with the corporations to destroy Deaf culture. Not only to that happen, there were also many happen in the hearing world since in late 90s and 2000, many people were activists who brought up and resist against Corporate elites because of Globalization, Big Corporations take over small and local business, and suppress the independent press.
That is good argument about how Capitalism controls our lives in the World and applied to the Deaf communities.

Anyways, I’ve seen plenty oralists and ex-oralists who abuse manualists’ English even tho’ oralists have no perfect English. Oralism is strong plus a fast spread of CI. Even ex-CIers still abuse manualists’ English.

AN, suggest to go see your doctor and ask for prescription, such as Zaban. It did help me stop smoking since I smoked over 30 years. I am still smokeless. Of course, temptations have had come to me, but I think they were so negative to me.
Besides, I still do not understand why America has been thinking of tobacco and alcohol be legalized as they know they are harmful. Importantly, do not use any of them at all.
……….Communism or Socialism would be great for our Deaf community……as posted in previous message…would we be able to object anything, such as ask to overthrow a person out of a post ( we did this last fall) or to express our thoughts freely. I dont think so. Out of my heart, we must help each other as long as we offer kindness and goodwill. Do not think of depending too much on government at all! Look at those who are “fingerpointers”. No use for them to serve us. So, we are responsible to change the government with new lawmakers as we have freedom to choose people who we think they are much better than who we have in the Congress. No use of keeping “fingerpointers”. We did it successfully with the Gallaudet University presidency because we had too much love for the University.
Remember this is my humble opinion as far as I have my right to think of what is better for me and others in the wonderful American country.
Wow, make sense, and very true, is all about money. Make sense, I remember going to Oral school most of us graduated 8th grade at age 17 or 18, of course is all about MONEY!!! Cochlear implant is also biggest money generator for doctors, many millions of dollars. However goes into waste, most of them quit after they are grown up. Truly sad how oppressors want to make changes on deaf. I am deaf and very proud.
