  2. Yay - I liked how you describe yourself - a NORMAL person! I’m thrilled to see your first vlog and I look forward to many more! Welcome aboard!

  3. Quite a good introduction… now I’m looking forward to more of what you have to offer in your future vlog entries.

I haven’t bought your recently released novel yet, though the storyline does sound somewhere interesting. May look it up someday.

May the best be with you. :-)

  4. :) Hello, John! Nice intro!

You made it look really easy - vlogging isn’t easy when you are staring in a camera or webcam and sign as if you were talking to an actual person! How many times did you practice before giving up and was it the first vlog?? Hehe.

Nice to see your signing in person and hope hearing parents of deaf children will get word to visit your website, along with others to learn more about how to raise their deaf children!!

We need more diversity and we need to get them into the mainstream, to get more parents involved!

Anyway, congrats on breaking your vlog virgin! :D

  5. You did great John and this is just the beginning!

    Happy V-logging!

  6. Welcome to our world of Vlog! Absolutely, I agreed with your opinion about the deaf child should learn ASL at early childhood before learn to speak. We are the same boat but I learn ASL when I enrolled CSDR. It was a cultural shock to see everyone sign and spell too fast. Gradually, I picked up very fast. CSDR empowered my personal growth. Even I enrolled NTID/RIT and Gallaudet in recent years ago, I am proud to be a normal person with the world of deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people.
    Congratulations! Keep vlogging often. Nick

  7. Yeah! I was there before just like u went through ur life . I was oralist and the education was not impacted me learning anything because i was too busy learning how to speak and i did not really understand what is going on around me while i was oralist from 2 years old to 9 years old . The School decided we need to change from oralism to SEE. The Teachers realized that oralism are failed us …. I was beginning to understand but not the whole thing til I went to MSSD and ASL inspired me and opened my mind and I learned even more with ASL and I finally understand what is going on around me with ASL . I got into ASL deeply and my writing skill is slowly improved everyday because of oralism wasted my time for me learning the education . Our generation of 1960’s already faced lots of problem in writing skills . I have noticed Today’s Kids showed lots of higher skills in their writing . I wondered if they learned ASL and learned how to write in their young ages … P.S. U have noticed my writing is not that great and plain boring english !! I feel more safer to write in simple and plain english .
My recommand is that the toddlers need to get the education more importantly than teaching them in oralism . The little kids can learn how to talk and listen in their speech class only … They will pick up their speech skills later on. However the rest of the day is ASL and writing skill is most important for their education … Speaking and ASL cannot be mixed together . The kids need to know that it is separated and diiferent language . I have four hearing kids . They learned ASL first then they learned to speak later on and They tried to speak and ASL at same time and it wont working for them … They realized ASL and speaking are separated . When they learned more about speaking english then they signed in more of english order. My kids changed back to ASL when they getting older . It is normal phase for kids … It is same away with deaf children !!!!!

  8. Congrats on your 1st vlog!! I totally agree with you. I grew up oralist and first learn ASL when I was about 14 years old. What a 14 years waste! THANK YOU!!

By the way, Where can I get the book Mindfield??

  9. Carl, Joey, Banjo, IamMine, DeafLinux, Nick Vera, cherre mull, Cathy and more of you coming,

Thank you so much for your inspirational comments and from your statements, you have made me start thinking of future Vlog stories to give you all.

Yes, I have plenty to say and hope to inspire many people to work together to have every deaf child in the nation to be bilingual!

Cathy, you can order my book, MindField through http://www.egbertpress.com/

  10. Wow! Glad to see your first vlog! We need people like you to write and educate hearing parents of deaf children about ASL and deaf culture. Too many hearing parents are in the dark and are often misled. Often many deaf people tend to follow ASL when they get older and rarely abandon it like they do with SEE and other artifical language. WHich means that ASL speaks louder and is a “perfect language” for deaf people to use , why cannot people see that and respect it!!! Also I would like more information about why some certain deaf people have a harder time learning ASL so that maybe we can work with them as well. Thanks! I look forward in buying your book real soon!

  11. Congrats on your first Vblog… Please Keep it up..

  12. I am sorry about spelling.. Sometimes my computer has its own mind. Scary..

Everyone: I suggest you to buy a book, “MindField”. It is easy to read and to hook this book. Once you start to read, you will have a sense of an urge to continue and to finish this book.

    Smile, Aidan

  13. Your first vlog looks great. Keep up :)

  14. I am always happy to see any books pusblished by Deaf people. We need more Deaf writers. Congratulations on your success. I will be ordering your book today.

Your daughter was a dear friend of mine during Gallaudet days. Not that is becauseI am buying your book (haha).

I am working on wrting a book myself but it will be in comic format It will be about Tales from a Deaf FAmily. It will focus cultural stories I want the book to show we are normal people and how important ASL - language is to us. In the book will also show the language/communication richness Deaf families have. I hope the book will help hearing parents decide to chose ASL to communicate with thier newly born deaf babbies. I also want my book to be also for anyone to read it for humour and enjoyment purpose.

    again, congratulations
    Bonnie
