DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of this position is to prepare deaf and hard of hearing students, while in Middle School, for High School by providing services and instruction which allow students to develop their reading, language, communication, behavior, social and academic skills to the best of their ability. The person filling this position may teach a range of curriculum levels from readiness through 8th grade or beyond depending on the needs of the assigned students each year. This position specializes in teaching science.

Major duties include:

* Provide academic instruction to assigned students.

* Develop unit and lesson plans.

* Evaluate students.

* Prepare summaries of student progress for Individualized Education Programs (IEP) meetings; develop, implement and track IEP goals and objectives; attend IEP meetings.

* Keep student records other than IEPs.

* Communicate with parents and co-workers regarding students.

* Complete reports cards or other paperwork as assigned.

* Participate in school improvement activities.

* Attend staff meetings, campus committee meetings, professional development and school improvement activities and/or student staffings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works with active deaf and hard of hearing children throughout day. May be required to supervise students during special activities. May work with students who have severe emotional or behavioral problems and with whom physical restraint techniques may need to be used. May work with and train teaching assistants, volunteers, college practicum students, and/or student teachers. May be exposed to communicable diseases.
