It doesn’t make sense that deafies spelled out L O L. Everytime the deafies said L O L, I rolled my eyes. I asked the hearing people if they do say L O L. They looked at me in disbelief. By the way, I was mainstreamed. I don’t see any related. Instant message has strong influence to impact the society.
Although one of hearing’s teenager daughter said that they, the teenagers, don’t say L O L in instant message anymore. It is old trend now. HAHA is the new trend.
“haha” sign has been used since but LOL not. The latter one is usually used at IM and I never saw it used by deaf vloggers. In my opinion, LOL should not be “signed” as it’s not aesthetic and comfortable to be signed.
I don’t think anyone should use LOL. It looks so old skool.
I liked it best when Monk learned how to use the internet, and said “It makes me LOL out loud”. It’s a shortcut for typing. Not appropriate for everyday language, IMHO,
I tend sign “ha” sometimes but most of times, I laughed, not have to sign ha ha ha…. see obviously body language. For email or aim, deaf tend using LOL and me tend using ha. But if I see any deaf sign LOL, I would tell them it’s not our deaf’s way.

I think it’s an influence from people using Instant Messaging, rather than videos.
I noticed it, too!

Hi there…
For me…I am more of using “Ha Ha” because of traditional ASL. I feel awkward using “LOL” in ASL.
FYI, your sign in “Ha Ha” indicates beautifully!

Lol is an Internet thing and has nothing to do with ASL.
