How can we tell if a person is Deaf? I’ll tell you how. The Deaf person doesn’t miss a beautiful lady walking by. Nah! Just kidding..Well, how do we know?
Here is the 12 answers, most are true, some may not be.
1. The Deaf person might not react to loud noises, like an ambulance siren, or notice some other auditory distraction.
2. The Deaf person looks more visual, looking at everything around , taking in everything visually.
3. We know hearing people use sidekicks, but the chances are greater if that person is using a sidekick, then that person may be Deaf.
4. You can see the Deaf person’s hands looking very well-shaped, smooth, that looks healthy, with every finger ligament used. Fingernails are probably cut. If we jam a finger, we tend to heal faster, because we use our fingers continuously, even if we got it jammed.
5. You can see the eyebrows moving- perking up, or frowning, or pursing, or see the eyebrows look quizzical.
6. When the Deaf person walks alone, in the City, you can see the Deaf person looking behind, for safety reasons. The Deaf person might be doing it repeatedly. It is instinctive because never know who is lurking behind.
7. The Deaf person keeps looking at you. The Deaf person has very observative eyes. Then you know that person might be Deaf!
8. The Deaf person might be carrying something in one hand, but leaving the other hand free- so that person can fingerspell or use sign language even while carrying a bag or items. You suspect that person might be Deaf, because one hand is always open, to be able to sign.
9. The Deaf person wears clothes that don’t match. The shirt color and pants color are a mismatch- ha ha.. Just kidding! But some do wear clothes that don’t match. SAD. (ha ha ha)
10. The Deaf person stares straight ahead, not paying attention to everything that goes on. It’s like the Deafie is in a silent world..
11. The Deaf person wears the pager with the cover on his belt, and wears a pouch bag, and has a backpack on.
12. You can see that Deaf person eating the wax from his earmolds. Then that person HAS to be Deaf.. haha!
a possible vibe! that happened to me before. im not surprised that i am not alone. Ha. You are right, we deaf can be recognized others without signing showed. Very RARELY that hit me before. Once I met a hearing woman I thought was deaf but she is a hearing CODA(without signed)! Is that COOL, isn’t it? What a vibe!
HA HA! It reminded me of my old and good friend from Canada, who caught me at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago in early summer 1988, recognized my behavior as deaf person with facial expressions, head movements, etc. That’s real funny! He watched waiting for the moment when I approached the airport ticket clerk to ensure when I was ready to board the plane. Suddenly, he recognized me as I am deaf by writing through the communication. Then he ensured my name to provide and I was dumbfounded.
We were on the way to National Theatre of the Deaf for the summer school in Chester, Conn via Hartford International AIrport. Thereafter, we became good friend. That was the best moment ever I encountered this situation.
Sometimes, I talked myself through fingerspelling down while I was walking anywhere. Some deaf individuals easily recognized and caught me with my blushed face.
In addition, I often studied and watched people with their faces and sensory of vibes that can tell which deaf or hearing. Pretty interesting!
Thank you for your generous sharing with our audience.

It is hard to tell if I am deaf. I always wear expensive clothes as I want to show hearing people that deaf people can afford to buy expensive clothes. Wink!
MOSTLY Times when can tell hit my old deaf freinds go out to park like fireworks or craft show. i can easy notice use gesture sign langauge or stanger i never see easy gesture. and stop said hi or hello. sometimes they come to me are you deaf i said yep and they said you know that my parent or grandfather or grandmother is deaf i know little sign langauge i forgot been long time.that why we use pubic sign langauge when we walk anywhere. we are not being afraid or hide being deaf show them we are deaf person. when you have company or family walk togther. sometime i said long time no see what up. i remember one of deaf said you brave to show them hearing world i said well i am being deaf no matter who am i being like me or them. one deaf person said you hero. i said no fear them.
I agree, that happen to me from time to time that I suspect a person is deaf and I would come to this person when I am sure that person is deaf. But many people will be puzzled when look at me because they did not think I am deaf, they look at me like I am hearing mother of a deaf son but my son is not deaf. So funny. So true.. my son can appear to be deaf because his sign language is so pictured rather than how hearing people speaks. He learn to sign before speaking so I guess that somewhat helps.. I would explain that I am deaf , not my son. Deaf people look at me not deaf but my son yes.. funny..sometime deaf people study me deep and realize I am deaf… or once they get to know me better they then realize I am deaf.

I noticed that many of deafies have no taste of clothing. It could be that you recognize them.
