A Short Review of “Through Deaf Eyes”

As I watched “Through Deaf Eyes”, what I felt was missing was the grassroot deaf culture.  There seems to be so much focus on Oralism and CI.  I’m not seeing enough stories about the majority of deaf’s eyes like ASL, deaf clubs and sport events which plays a big role in deaf culture.

I am left to wonder who was consulted in producing this documentary.  I’m left with distinct memory in my mind, days and weeks after watching this documentary and am visually hearing Clarke School…Clarke School….Clarke School….like a broken record, again and again and again.  Clarke School was like a dark cloud looming large and overshadowing the rest of the documentary, thus demeaning the truth of what’s seen through deaf’s eyes.

Someone ought to make another documentary called “Through ASL’s eyes” so that my memory of Clarke School would then fade away.

I just can’t shake that out of my mind!
