Deaf Culture and Deaf Brain

Scientist now says CULTURE impacts the hard-wiring of your brain!  Ahh, that explains how deaf people sees the world differently than the hearing and why there’s a great divide!

Don’t believe me?   check out the article:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22729220/

Apparently East Asian cultures emphasize on “interdependent” whereas Americans are more of “Be yourself, you’re number one, etc.” as stated in that article.       What about DEAF BRAIN?

Would be cool if scientists did a study on deaf brains!  MRI supposedly shows different brain activities within a culture.  Wow…how awesome.  Definitely different variations among the deaf culture based on oralism and signers.

Seriously, this is probably why there’s so much difference in perspective among the deaf community in how we see the world.  No, let me rephrase that (as the article states), it’s more of  “they think differently about what they see”, rather than  “See the world differently.”

The article also states that the downside to these cultural studies are that one ends up stereotyping a culture.   What else is new?   Isn’t that what we’re seeing in DR?

I think my brain is hot wired to see everything as relative since I’m not really deaf, nor am I hearing.   At least, not technically.

*Note to self, make an appointment with Igor for brain studies.*

 Until next time~
