Deaf Performing Artists Network — comments

I just checked out their website and it looks to me like they’re starting up sort of a “Deaf MTV” site where songs are reinterpreted with captions, ASL and so forth. If this sticks around and expands, this might be the best place for me to discover new music.
I’m definitely keeping an eye on […]

language as intelligence

Definite food for thought here. What struck me about this video was yet another way in which people equate spoken language with intelligence. Just note: the first three minutes of this video has only background sounds: I believe it’s the water running, some humming, that sort of thing. After that, she uses […]

Nothing new, of course — many people have pointed out similar things. But I keep coming back to the whole question of deaf education and how it’s gotten so screwed over by the ADA.

Thank you for your […]

daphne wright trial

UpdateThe public defender for Wright is at tsmith@minnehahacounty.org.
Her lawyers are preparing a defense for her that basically says that she’s too stupid, on account of being deaf, to be properly tried for anything:
Court papers filed by Daphne Wright’s lawyers say that people who’ve been deaf since early childhood have severely limited vocabularies and a hard […]

vlogging

So I’m going through more of the vlog entries I can find for various different clips I can look through. I’ve also actually made one myself (although it’s very basic) but I notice that there are very few female vloggers. I’ve seen individual posts done, but are there regular ones a la Joey […]

Over at Mike Schmidt’s Oh I See blog, he’s got a great vlog called From Solitaire to Poker. Go take a look if you haven’t already. I very much enjoyed watching it and picked up a couple of new words as well!
