Unfriendly skies

Airlines have been equipping their magnificent flying machines with the most advanced of technologies, televisons included–yet they cannot, or do not want to, caption their in-flight movies.

If they choose to deny the ability for me to enjoy the flight as others, then I should pay LESS.

Hurry the fuck up, federal government, my government, screw them the airlines for being so greedy, unfair and selfish. Their arrogance is penetrable only by you, the government. Get on it already, dickwads!

  1. Perhaps the airlines feel that the captions would be uncomfortable for the majority of the passengers. The majority always wins.

Take along a good book by your favorite author.

  2. As the hearing parent of a Deaf child who also happens to be a frequent flyer, I strongly suspect that they don’t want to caption the in-flight movies because then they couldn’t charge as much for headphones in coach. It’s all about the money.

  3. What you moaning about I thought y’all could lip read so why do you need captions and if you can’t lip read then you you learn. If I was blind I would learn Braille .. get over yourself will ya it’s not the rest of the world’s fault you are deaf and I am sure if you sit and think I daresay there are some things you don’t pay enough attention to or care enough about, so why should the whole world care so much about you.

  4. Lip reading is enormously difficult and not very efficient. Just try turning off the sound on your TV and see how much you get. My daughter recently got an auditory brainstem implant. Daily practice in lip reading for a couple of years should get her up to maybe 60% comprehension with lip reading with the implant. Now it’s about 10%.

As the parent of a late deafened child I have seen just how poorly airlines accommodate deaf passengers. I have complained to airlines, to no avail. It is clear that the same airlines that serve little packets of pretzels for lunch on five hour transcontinental flights are determined not to spend a dime on accommodations of deaf passengers.

  5. I agree with Ken.
