It’s great to travel to New Orleans. My friends and me, about 8 person, we all met on a deaf dating site mydeafmatch.com . We are planning go to New Orleans for traveling next moth. It really a nice place.

Hi Y’all! Welcome to New Orleans.
Please make sure to go see Frenchman Street: Start at US Mint.
From Frenchman you can walk downstream down Chartres or Royal Streets or Decatur along the seawall.
Sound Cafe, Flora Cafe’, Venetian Gardens, all within a few blocks of each other in the Marigny: Chartres/Royal…cross streets: Franklin Ave/Port Street
you can just walk around there great neighborhood.
Also: ride the Street Car all the way down St. Charles Ave to the end of the line and back. Cheapest best show in town.

Amy, you might want to remind the NAD leadership that passing an audism policy and passing a deafhood resolution is great but it will eventually look bad when we find that the NAD’s Diversity Strategic Team, the members of color on their Board and the fact that nothing of substance (like in Palm Spring) regarding anti-racism and diversity or a zero tolerance policy for racism, will eventually make them and the deaf world look bad. The UFG, Gallaudet University and the NAD itself have long waxed poetic about inclusion but it has been nothing more than lip service to date and it remains difficult to attract deaf people of color into the NAD membership. Deaf culture remains something seen from just one lens. Until a diverse lens is used to truly look into our beautiful visual world, we are NOT a united community and will keep waiting for the visionary leaders who will have the courage and charisma to truly unite our diverse deaf world. You are a voice I am sure the NAD leadership will listen to. And I am sure Kristi Merriweather will be damn proud of her AASD colleague - eh?

Katrina victims are not only ones who suffer because Midwesterners who live near Mississippi River are also victims and they have to deal with flooding problems every year unlike people of New Orleans. I wonder why do you choose NAD conference over DBC and I thought you are a true advocate of DBC. I think it is all about money and politics.

Awesome Amy, you are spoiled now having a rich experience being in LA and Hurricane Katrina/Rita.. The LA committee we gotta give them a big BRAVO for overcoming the terrible times. Have a great time, I know you will as always..
Fairlady is awesome person that I’ve known for a year or two (can’t remember) bless your heart Fairlady. I’m so looking forward to more of your stories of the before and aftermash of Hurricane Katrina.

I completely agree with you. Not to mention California — million peoples of California have been plagued by fire all the way from the northern California to the southern California ___not only for one day but___ for months since last October 2007. The mid-western states equally suffer SILENTLY about losing homes and their loved relatives. The victims take it with grace and dignity and hope.

With all the grace and dignity and loss of hope of a caged animal, I suffered that first week of the Federal Flood, when the Corps of Engineers levees failed due to their bad engineering and completely flooded the city of New Orleans, killing over 1000 Americans, and devastating over 250,000 homes…and the water sat for weeks and weeks.
After six days, I escaped in a pick up truck with my dog, back pack, guitar and bicycle…in a long long long line of frightened American Refugees.
Before you even think of sliding any qualitative comparisons in the way different Americans handle such tragedy, perhaps you should first call Jesus on the Mainline and tell him what you want—he’s been there.
Please do not go there.
YOU WILL NOT LIKE WHAT YOU FIND.

Yay, Thanks for helping to bring attention. I was so THRILL to meet you at the airport to bring you to NAD.. I finally was able to feel to be part of bigger deaf community but SADLY I had to leave in short amount of time. But I WILL plan to come back and make my visit and socializing bit longer..
I miss those times..
