I think we should try to get Deaf people or signing deaf people on all these boards. Why bother trying to educate them? Let’s just go in and get involved! It requires more work of course and commitment but the rewards will be immeasurable.
I agree with you Joseph! We need to start somewhere that we can make a huge impact, by being involved in a right group of people. The more we present ourselves before these people, they’ll change their perspectives about us, that we are intelligent human beings who use American Sign Language (and for some, spoken or written English). We need more bilingual role models like all of us, to be involved.
Hmm, still there is a need for monitoring how the boards do their job. Perhaps, something a sub-committee under NAD or DBC? Like establishing a guideline for the procedure, etc…?
It will be good idea to have NAD oversee the state commissions as well as each state associaton of deaf too. We need checks and balances for every facet of deaf life. Audism is the problem in every facet.
As for EHDI, we need to add deaf views and issues with them. Lately there is one that has too much “audism” practice… namely one school a.k.a. St. Joseph’s as well as Moog’s as well as CID tend to hog the system…. it is time for them to BACK OFF and let the truth be the guidance!
I feel that NAD or other association of the Deaf and include Amy Cohen Enforn if you agree that each Deaf child has right to be learned socially, bilingually and functionally that is basic fundmental. Since education of the Deaf has beenn very flaw due to many conflicts. If a Deaf child has right to be learned under the law that would impact education of the Deaf.
The NAD and Amy Cohen Effron specifically use the word “we” for a good reason. The NAD is not a separate entity from you or the deaf and hard of hearing community–the organization embodies the essence of the community.
To borrow from JFK, “Ask not what the NAD can do for you–but what you can do for the NAD.” And they make very good suggestions regarding what you can do for the NAD/ASL community in their email to Amy Cohen Effron.
Great! Think global and act local. I think it is best to find out what your local EHDI advisory panel state. Then you can start to get involved in your local area by emailing the link to “The Greatest Irony” and other critical resources related to ASL need for all deaf/HH children. Good job, Amy! We are blessed to have you.
i read all the comments above. I suggest that the President from each State Association and NAD should be have a “round table” such as meeting/feedback/discussion to have each state should be have an EHDI advisory panel, problem-solving and improvement for the Deaf community/professional’s services. Have Amy or Bobbie Beth Scoggins, President of NAD or Nancy Bloch, Executive Director of NAD any idea/suggesting?
I congratulate you for reaching out to NAD to obtain the mission. Deaf Bilingual Coalition, EDHI and NAD need to promote the nation to make the agreements with AG Bell.
AG Bell needs to provide the nation the status of the statistics on these infant and toddlers age along with the psychologically communication modes.
It is good for you to reach this blog/message to the nation about the Greatest Irony. If we do not have the blog, we would not have known about this Greatest Irony.
I am very proud of you to make your best effort to reveal the GREATEST IRONY vlog which impact our community and the nationwide effect. It is great to know that NAD’s involvement this matter and I hope this will be outcome eventually.
Cheers!
It is a delight to know that the NAD finds your Greatest Irony a very positive approach. Je sais! Je sais! The NAD cannot work alone. The reinforcement wou;d be weakened by the lack of aggressiveness in the deaf community. Many Brooklynites are like the Rock of Gibraltar, d’accord?
I beg to disagree with you. You should do your homework and learn that the U.S. Consitution says “We, the people.” Meaning? We are to work together because we are created equally, accoring to one of President Thomas Jefferson’s sayings. My point? Simply put. The NAD cannot do it without us.

NAD ought to takeover all the state commissions of the deaf and hire their own people to run those commissions.
Enuff of many incomptence and unqualified state commissioners of the deaf and their staff.
So the NAD finally serve the deaf people on real terms and with full power.
